100 years of Solitude... together

Ahhh! Finally, the comforts of home. Kate and Hau were very excited to embark on this new chapter together. They were able for the first time to live in their house and also together. They chopped wood. They vacuumed. They read books. Kate learned how to knit (and she is still currently obsessed with that). Hau employed his weed destroying skills on the yard. They spent many hours listening to the sound of little cat feet pitter-pattering around the house as they spent quiet evenings together. Kate was unemployed for the first time since she was 14. Hau was gainfully employed for the first time since...

Hau and Jackson also snuggle by the fireplace. Generally, that's where we spend all our time in the winter.

Hau and Kate's house was built in 1911. A solidly built stone house will never fall over, but is somewhat hard to heat, similar to how a cave might be. The wind that gusts through Teasdale batters the house and creates all kinds of interesting noises that have become part of everyday life.

As the first winter together slipped by, Kate searched high and low for work. She found employment as a wilderness field instructor for an outdoor program for troubled teenagers, called Aspen Achievement Academy. She worked for this company for about a year.

Hau continued to work at the field station in Capitol Reef. He introduced many students to the wonders of the natural world, hosted some lively dinnertime debates and always wowed visitors with his Boggle skills.

The first year back home was characterized by rhythms and lots of getting outside. Kate and Hau had many small hiking adventures and also traveled around Utah a bit, discovering new things.

...to be continued...
